Hi Brian, I really appreciated your article, it's clear and concise, and I think you convinced me to use NHibernate.

I was reading other articles about this topic, and yours is the most complete and to the point.

Thanks and Congratulations.

Dscho,

I see that you are one of the committers on the msysGit project, so you obviously have a strong emotional investment in the project. I apologize if my comments offended you. You and the other maintainers of msysGit have put a lot of time and effort into the project, and you should be commended for it.

It's completely understandable that you and the rest of the team won't be able to respond to every single bug and feature request, especially not immediately. As you said, this is something you have to work on in your free time, which I'm sure is quite limited, and you get to what you can get to.

However, I think you may be overreacting a bit. It's not as if for the entire post I was railing against the msysGit committers and community; I barely mentioned it. And besides, my blog is not exactly required reading in any tech community, so you can be pretty sure that I won't be "discouraging" anyone from working on msysGit. I imagine the way you found it in the first place was by using Google Alerts or a similar tool, without which it would never have come to your attention. And besides, the thrust of my assertion wasn't about the number of features the msysGit team are able to address, but the attitude with which they respond to such requests. If the tone of your comment here is any indication, the responses I linked to may be representative after all.

So, ashamed? Not really. If something as innocuous as what I said is enough to make you not want to work on msysGit, you may want to examine your motivations for working on the project.

This is a blatant misrepresentation of the msysGit project, and you should be ashamed for it.

It should be clear - even after only the slightest hint of research - that the ratio of msysGit users vs developers is well over 10.000. It should be even more clear, then, that it is just not possible to take care of all the user requests, especially those that ask for feature enhancements. And then, there are comments like yours, which are not exactly motivating for people who work for no money, so it is really the fault of comments like yours when you get a negative answer in the form as the one you "linked to".

To be really honest: your blog post is the best proof that the form of those answers is not always unmerited.
